Why most men have never had one
Usually because the version on offer is built for somebody else. It is ninety minutes, it costs well over a hundred dollars, it comes with a changing room and a playlist, and none of that has anything to do with skin.
The Men’s Mini Facial is thirty minutes and twenty dollars. You keep your shirt on. It is the working part of a facial with the theatre removed.
What happens in the thirty minutes
A cleanse first, warm, to get off the layer that ordinary washing at a sink does not. Then exfoliation — the step that actually changes how your face looks the next morning — matched to how much your skin can take rather than a fixed protocol.
Extraction where it is genuinely warranted and nowhere else. Squeezing a face for the sake of thoroughness leaves marks that last longer than whatever was removed. Then a finish appropriate to your skin: something lighter for oily or humid-weather skin, something richer if you are dry, cracked, or shaving daily.
If you are getting a haircut or a shave the same day, the facial goes first. Hot towels and a razor on freshly exfoliated skin is the wrong order and it will tell you so.
Skin that works for a living
Spring gets hot and it gets humid, and a lot of men here work outside in it. Sun, sweat, hard-hat lines, and a beard trap the day against your face in a way that a rinse in the shower does not undo.
Blackheads across the nose and forehead, a permanently shiny T-zone, or skin that has started reacting badly to a daily shave are all ordinary and all improvable. So is the opposite problem — tight, flaking skin from air conditioning and a harsh soap.
You will not be sold a six-step regimen at the end. If one product would help, you will be told which and why. If none would, you will be told that too.
